El Tesoro Tequila, more formally known as El Tesoro de Don Felipe, was officially established as a brand in 1990. It was launched as a joint venture between the Camarena family - who have been involved in the production of tequila in Jalisco Mexico since the early 1800s – and premium tequila marketers Robert J. Denton and Marilyn S. Smith. El Tesoro is produced at the Camarena family’s La Altena Distillery in Jalisco, established in 1937. Operated by the family’s 3rd generation Master Distiller Carlos Camarena Curiel, the distillery and subsequently the brand, continues to grow in popularity. El Tesoro is now owned by world-renowned beverage manufacturer Beam Suntory of the US, who obtained full ownership of the brand in the early 2000s. El Tesoro offers several varietals of tequila including its Blanco and Reposado blends and its highly-acclaimed Pardiso; slow-aged tequila matured for a minimum of 5 years in French oak ex-Cognac barrels.
